Rene started his first software startup out of high school, building one of the early GUI-based point-of-sale and inventory management systems for small retailers. He has since worked on several other technology startups as well as at McKinsey and Morgan Stanley. Rene holds a diploma from WHU, Germany and a MBA from MIT Sloan. He was awarded the 2011 McGovern Entrepreneurship award.
Prior to Locu, Marek was a senior PhD candidate at MIT CSAIL. He is a Facebook Fellow and the recipient of the J. Edgar McAllister Fellowship. He has prior work experience at a number of technology companies including Google, Microsoft (Research), and Sun (Labs).
Marc's always been passionate about building cool products. His background is in software development, operations and product management. He was a team lead in R&D at Bloomberg and has worked at VMware, IBM and Cisco Systems. He holds a BS/MS in Computer Science and Engineering from UCL, Belgium, and a MBA from MIT Sloan.
Prior to joining Locu, Stelios was a Postdoctoral Fellow at MIT CSAIL. He is the recipient of the NSF Postdoctoral Computing Innovationvation Fellowship. He has a PhD in Computer Science from Columbia University. He is also of restaurateur pedigree; his family owns a popular seafood restaurant in New York City. Stelios has worked in several startups.
Jason is Locu's Director of Machine Learning. He recently received his PhD from MIT CSAIL and has previously worked with Google, Reveal Imaging Technologies, AMD, and Bluefin Robotics. He has three weaknesses: extremely spicy food, coffee roasting, and powerlifting.
Matt is responsible for Locu's operations, business development, and support. After receiving a degree in Economics from the University of Massachusetts Amherst, he worked in both project management and financial sales positions. "Nine to five" doesn't apply to Matt - as an avid sportsman his energy is unmatched and he has also taken charge of Locu’s team fitness assuring our health stats are in order.
Adam is Locu's Director of Data. He recently completed his Ph.D. in Computer Science at MIT. His dissertation is on database systems and human computation. He is a recipient of the NSF and NDSEG fellowships, and has previously worked at ITA, Google, IBM, and FactSet. In his free time, he builds course content to get people excited about data and programming.
Usman is a recent MIT graduate who has worked at Microsoft and Facebook. He juggles his free time among listening to post-rock music, watching sports or making fun of Kainar. He's interested in film-making and doing non-profit work in education.
Solomon works at Locu as a user experience designer and front-end developer. He has a BS and M.Eng in Computer Science from MIT, and a Masters in Tangible Interaction Design from Carnegie Mellon. Prior to joining Locu, he worked with a number of startups, including GroupMe, Smarterer and Redigi.
Sarah loves building and scaling companies where the brand, the product and the user experience magically become one. She has been fortunate enough to be able to do just this in her CMO roles with House of Blues, Zipcar and Virgin. As a warm up, Sarah spent several years at Bain & Company, received an MBA from the Harvard Business School and B.S. and B.A. degrees from Trinity College in Connecticut.
Arsen received a double major in Computer Science and Physics from MIT (with a year at Cambridge University). He is excited to be a software engineer at Locu.
Mok is a passionate Entrepreneur and Data Scientist. He was most recently Chief Scientist at Paypal, a company he joined from the WHERE Inc. acquisition. Prior to WHERE, he founded and was CTO of the data visualization company EveryScape. He holds a PhD from MIT, a MS from UPenn and CS, Art History and Studio Art degrees from Oberlin College.
Keir is Locu's Director of Engineering. Before joining Locu, Keir was a Google engineer for many years. At Google, Keir improved the imagery on Google Maps, helped keep Street View panoramas well posed by writing Ceres Solver, shaped Google Now while part of the Android team, and most recently worked on the camera for Google Glass. Keir has a M.A.Sc. degree from the University of Toronto, and also has an Erdos-Bacon number of 7.
Taylor is a visual designer at Locu who graduated from UC Davis with a degree in Design - Visual Communication. He spends his free time keeping up with the latest in typography, UI, and illustration and plays ultimate frisbee for San Francisco's Revolver.
Kristen is an Associate Product Marketing Manager at Locu. She graduated from New York University with a B.A in English and loves reading, writing, the Chicago Blackhawks and lazy Sundays with her dog and cat.
Melinda is Locu’s Director of Product Marketing. She has over nine years of experience working across marketing, product and strategy at internet companies including StumbleUpon, Yahoo!, and QuinStreet. She has an M.B.A. from the Kellogg School of Management and a B.A. from Pomona College. You can find her trolling the streets of San Francisco in search of good eats.
Anthony works on Locu's Customer Success team. He grew up in a family of small business owners and has a varied background from marine biology to landscape architecture. His experience brings a large array of skills to Locu which, some say, come from his time as a bartender. He is an avid waterman from his love of surfing to his days as an adventurer at sea. He holds a certificate in Landscape Architecture from UC Berkeley and a BS in Biology from UC San Diego.
Tina is a designer and developer who is passionate about user-centered design. She spends her time working on products that improve people's lives, learning new things and seeking adventure. Before eBay Local's acquisition, she was doing design and development at Milo. Tina holds a BS in Computer Science and Engineering from UC Davis and an MS in Computer Science (HCI) from Stanford where she was often spotted at the d.school.
Lydia is a software engineer at Locu. Prior to joining Locu, she worked on speech processing software at a healthcare startup. She graduated with a B.S. and M.Eng. in EECS from MIT. In her free time, she likes to go rock climbing and take long bike rides in search of bakeries.
Dan works on Locu's Customer Success team. Prior to joining Locu, he worked with the Ed-Tech start-up eChalk and various non profit organizations in the Bay Area. He graduated from New York University where he majored in Culture and Communications and is a self proclaimed comic book nerd, world traveler and connoisseur of fine food and live music.
Mark is the Head of Business Development at Locu. He has a penchant for start-ups that change industries and has spent the past 14 years helping them create strategic partnerships. Prior to Locu, Mark spent almost 5 years with Trulia helping the company grow from a small start-up to a publicly traded company. Mark has been with companies including Yahoo! HotJobs, Federated Media Publishing, and Eurekster, where he led business development making partnerships with Fortune 500 companies such as Forbes and Time Inc. Originally from New York City, Mark holds a bachelors degree from Boston University where he rowed on the Division 1 Crew Team and an MBA from the University of San Francisco. He resides in the bay area with his wife and baby girl.
Shaun is an engineer at Locu. He is from New Zealand where he got his conjoint BE/BCom degrees from the University of Auckland. Before joining Locu he worked at IBM, Google and co-founded Canary Calendar. When Shaun is not designing or building products he likes to play the piano and write strange-sounding instrumental music.
Varun is the Head of Product for Get Found at Locu. He joins Locu from Laveem, a Boston-based startup he cofounded in 2011 with Shaun. Prior to founding Laveem, Varun worked as a Product Manager at Google, building advertiser tools in AdWords. Varun holds S.B. and M.Eng. degrees in EECS from MIT —with his graduate work focused on modeling blood flow regulation mechanisms in the human body. He loves basketball, spicy food, crisp dollar bills, and making “dad jokes”.
Josh is a recent MIT grad in Computer Science. He is spending his summer working on a product recommendation system for the GoDaddy Customer Care Center before returning to MIT for his M.Eng in Computer Systems in the fall. Josh spends his free time reading and rock climbing when he's not acting as Stephanie's personal assistant or impersonating Derek in the Cambridge office.
Nitya is a rising senior majoring in Computer Science at MIT. This summer, she is interning with Locu, primarily working on machine learning. In her spare time, she enjoys rowing, hiking, and hanging out at San Francisco’s farmers markets, shops, and restaurants.
